The biggest hit at my studio during the Denman Island Studio Tour this month was the newly completed BIG CEDAR BURL table. An impromptu photo-shoot with Baby Arwyn (above) gives a clear sense of the dimensions of this table – 6’x10′ – it’s rather large! And I’m estimating from a sample count of the rings that it’s approximately 300 years old.
The table was deemed highly touchable – the sensation of finely sanded cedar is so sensual and beautiful. The final rounds of sanding brought the finish to a beautiful feeling and look – with all the amazing character of this burl revealed. We chose to mount it with contrasting powder-coated steel legs. Very pleased with the result. This is my first big project in the new studio.
Below – table top. Fabulous character of the burl wood. It’s now received 3 coats of walnut oil and is getting a sealing top coat of Osmo (Eco-friendly) and will be ready for delivery in a few days. Currently available for purchase – contact me for more info.
